As North Rhins wind farm is situated in a remote location, it faced late connection to its mains supply following construction.
A temporary power solution was required to ensure commissioning and fault-finding could be carried out and to ensure the turbine electronics were also protected.
Aggreko provided a full power package to liven up the medium voltage 33 kV system on the wind farm. This included generators, transformers, LV and HV cables, a loadbank, fuel management and operational service back-up.
The site's 11 turbines were powered-up with the heaters, dehumidifiers and hydraulic pumps being run to protect the turbines. All 33 kV and 690V systems could therefore be checked and faults identified and corrected.
The result for the customer
95% of the commissioning was carried out, including the SCADA tests, with only the load endurance tests remaining once mains supply was connected. There were no delays to the commissioning schedule and the commissioning team was retained on-site to carry this out at the planned time.
