Aggreko helps St Patrick’s Festival rock to success
Aggreko, the world leaders in the rental of power, temperature
control and oil-free compressed air systems, provided the power to
ensure this year’s St Patrick’s Festival in Dublin was a roaring
success. The festival, which was held around St Patrick’s Day in
March, was jam packed with music shows, funfairs and theatre
performances, requiring more than 2MW of temporary power. As
Foundation Partners, Aggreko provided the equipment free-of-charge
to support the event. The climax was the St Patrick's Festival
National Lottery Skyfest featuring a fireworks and projection show
at the Rock of Cashel, one of Ireland's most spectacular
archaeological sites.
Aggreko provided 26 generators located around Dublin, along with
distribution panels and cabling including those sited at Dublin
castle to power the broadcast facilities, PA system, equipment in
the marquees, the flood lights around the castle and temporary car
parks.
To help ensure that the festival ran smoothly, Aggreko worked
with the events committee in the six month run up to the event, as
Mark Reilly, a sales engineer from Aggreko explains: “We were
called in to help in the planning process to offer guidance on the
temporary power equipment that would be needed. We specified
generators ranging from 60kVA to 300kVA to ensure there was
adequate power to cover all the individual events.
“One of the major considerations when placing the equipment was
choosing the best locations for it. We had to consider that the
generators were being sited in public spaces but needed to be
within a reasonable distance to their point of use. So, we
coordinated with the organisers to ensure that fencing and barriers
were constructed and where possible, we located some of the
equipment behind stands, all to ensure they were away from public
access for safety reasons.”
With the St Patrick’s Festival being a very public affair,
Aggreko had only a short time frame to install, commission and
de-commission some of the equipment. “At the castle and some
locations in Dublin centre, we had to set up at 6am and have the
equipment out by 8pm,” adds Mark Reilly.
Susan Kirby from St Patrick’s Festival Committee, comments: “St
Patrick’s Day is a massive fanfair in Ireland with more than one
million visitors attending events. With an affair of this scale, it
was vital that we worked with reliable suppliers to ensure the
event ran on schedule. We have enjoyed a strong working
relationship with Aggreko for many years and the company’s status
as the largest provider of generators in Ireland meant they could
handle our requirements. Working with Aggreko gave us peace of mind
that all the necessary power would be in position, on time and in
addition their engineers were on location at all times to oversee
the equipment in operation.”
Aggreko’s generators are manufactured in-house. They are of the
highest quality, stringently tested and regularly maintained to
keep them in the best condition. The extensive range of temporary
power and temperature control equipment Aggreko offers means a
solution can be found for any event, however big or small, while
working around issues such as safety and aesthetics.
As market leaders, the company has a dedicated National Rental
Centre in Portlaoise supported by a team of sales and service
engineers that provide technical expertise and solutions know how
